Day 2 (Mon 3 Sep)
Awaking refreshed, and following a brief exploration of the
immediate surrounds, Doug met up with a very old friend. Barrie Harmsworth was his ‘regimental brother’
at Duntroon in 1962. They hadn’t met, or
had any direct contact, for almost 56 years.
The pair exchanged ‘potted histories’ for the intervening time and each
managed to have something interesting to say to the other. It was too soon ‘back to work’ for Barrie. Doug remarked on how especially pleasing it was to recall just what close friends they had been
and what good friends they remain. From
the sadly backlit photo, carefully composed to include a view of the very expensive Marina on Dubai Creek, you
may discern that they both had the apparent potential to become somewhat
‘shady’ characters. Helen later found a little
shop to enjoy the very tasty local variety of baklava and freshly-squeezed
fruit juice. Further rest followed. …

Hope you are well rested for the next leg of the journey love Danxx
