This is the Opening Post for a narrative about the travels of Helen
& Doug Heazlewood in September-October 2018.
A word about the title - Kervansaray is
the modern Turkish word for what used to be translated into English as
'Caravanserai'. These came about
every 30 Km along all the major Oriental trading routes (the 'Silk Road'), all
the way to China, as accommodation for a merchant's whole camel train, also as
trading posts where one merchant might exchange goods and money with another
before returning from whence they came.
A kind of tenth century motel? The
background photograph is of one we came across on our way across Anatolia in
2014.
One of our destinations is
Canakkele, Turkey, where we will stay at the Canakkele Kervansary Hotel. See what attracted us at: http://www.canakkalekervansarayhotel.com/canakkale-eng
Dear Dad,
ReplyDeleteSteven has shown me how to access the blog on the computer, which makes it easier to post comments (as compared to my iphone). This will be a fascinating and educational trip for all of us. The accommodation at Canakkele looks beautiful, the rooms and restaurant as well as the garden. I am looking foward to seeing reallive pictures. Great start to your blog, this will be great for all of us. xxxxxx
I look forward to many photos.
